Why does everyone give you an appalling look when you fart in public?

Old ladies can get away with farting in public and no one says anything and it is just so cute when the little oopsie baby does a tootsie, but why can't an average person get away with it? Just admit it everyone farts in public and at least it was a loud pants ripper and not an SBD.
