Looking for some advise from gay men?

i have a guy friend up in edmonton canada who is looking for his first gay experience and it seems like he wants a certain type of guy and i think he is being to picky. he is like 40 years old and stands 5'10 and a halve inches tall and is heavy set and he wants a dominate older man in his 50s who towers over him. is this some sort of father figure thing or something? and what dose it mean when he says he wants a guy who is strictly a top? and also my friend has not had a hair cut in so long that its starting to get long and i think he should get a hair cut because he looks so much better with short hair. what do you think?
