Can I kick my boyfriend out of my apartment or do I need to evict him even though he's not on the lease?

My boyfriend has become very mentally abusive and controlling to me over the past 6 months and has been living with me since I moved into my apartment. He was never on the lease with me and NOTHING is in his name, it's all in mine. He pays less than half on the rent and doesn't help me with any utilities. Hes an angry drug addict and i have tried to break up with him before and kick him out of the apartment but he retaliates with "im not going anywhere, I live here and everyone knows i do.I've called the police on him before for domestic violence against me, but the chicago police are useless. He always seems to charm his way out of the arrest and make me look like the bad guy. The police we're treating me like I was in a psych ward. Some people say I have to give him 30 days, but why should I since all the bills and lease are in my name? Do you think getting a temporary order protection will make it stick?
