If you own the movie, is dowloading a torrent still illegal?

Say I own the movie 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' on bluray, and I want a copy of it on my iPad, but don't have a bluray ripper, so I torrent a bluray copy of the movie - is that still illegal, or is it the same concept as me making a 'backup' of the movie on my computer?
